Domain name

Posted by Whitney Young Sat, 15 Apr 2006 17:10:00 GMT

I finally got around to registering a domain name, so update your bookmarks (for the few people who have bookmarked things on my site). I actually am set up with a new host as well, NetworkRedux, and so far they have been amazing. AmbitiousLemon has been so good to me, and I still feel like I owe the guy who let me steal so much bandwidth from him for so long. I highly recommend taking a look at AmbitiousLemon if you’re looking for a free web host. They do have a few rules, though.

The NetworkRedux server feels a lot faster than any host I’ve been with yet, and I hope that eventually I’ll be able to get some RubyOnRails applications running on FastCGI. Right now I’m using Typo to do blogging, but am still running it on CGI. Now that I have a real blogging system set up, maybe I’ll actually post things here more often. I doubt anyone actually reads any of these posts, though, anyway.

New site design

Posted by Whitney Young Thu, 10 Nov 2005 03:09:00 GMT

Well it’s been a long time since I’ve written anything here. In part I haven’t written anything because I wanted to keep the Coder Wanted post from August up as long as possible. (AmbitiousLemon is still looking for a Coder for the project.) The other reason is because I’ve been extremely busy with school. I’ve had a little free time recently, though, and have updated the site slightly.

I’ve wanted for a long time to update the site to something like this, and I’m pleased with the way that it turned out. I hope everyone likes it!

On another note, Senuti 0.29 flew past all previous releases in the number of initial downloads. I’d like to send thanks out to everyone who has helped spread the word recently, and please keep letting your friends know!

Coder Wanted

Posted by Whitney Young Fri, 19 Aug 2005 04:39:00 GMT

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to finish the project I was working on this summer. I’ve been working on creating a site for the person who hosts the Ambitious Lemon server (and my site).

The website is a user-driven site through which artwork can be shared. There are a lot of sites that do this already, but some great ideas have been thrown around for this project. I’ll be going back to school soon and working part time as well, so I won’t have time to keep working on it, but I’m hoping that someone might want to keep the project going.

If there’s anyone who is looking to improve his or her PHP and MySQL skills or even just likes coding for fun, let me know. I’ve had a lot of fun working on the project, and don’t really want to see it die. I’d love to keep working on it, but I just don’t have the time. E-mail me if you’re interested!

Another update

Posted by Whitney Young Mon, 08 Aug 2005 16:32:00 GMT

Ok, so I decided to fix up my site sooner than expected. The entire site should now be valid XHTML 1.1 and valid CSS. I believe it will also display correctly on IE 6.0 (which is remarkable since IE doesn’t comply with web standards). All of the content remains the same, though. It needs an update as well. It will take me longer to get around to that. Since I know it will take me a while to update, I’ll give a little more information about my previous post.

As stated before, 10% of all donations I receive will in turn be donated. The causes I plan on donating to currently are breast cancer and lupus research. Equal amounts will be donated to both causes and will be done on a quarterly schedule. That’s pretty much the gist of it, but I will eventually put information somewhere else on the site.

Update

Posted by Whitney Young Thu, 04 Aug 2005 16:29:00 GMT

So it’s been a long time since I’ve given an update on what I’ve been up to. I’ve been far busier than I expected to be this summer, so I unfortunately haven’t had as much time as I would have liked to work on my software. Currently I’m working on a site for the people at AmbitiousLemon. My main focus for the summer will be completing that site. If I finish that, I plan to jump right back into working on my software.

I have a lot of changes that I’m planning on making in both Senuti and Cashbox. The next version of Cashbox will include a new icon thanks to a friend in the AL community. It will also have a completely redesigned user interface. I’ll also hope to get a chance to update my site to comply with web standards and fix areas of the back-end that are no longer working.

On a completely separate note, I’d like to note a very significant change in regards to donations for software. As of this month, 10% of all donations will be donated to charity. When I update the site, I will include a lot more information about these donations, but if you have questions, feel free to e-mail me.

I’d like to thank you all for your continued support to my work and inspiring me to take my little projects farther than I ever thought they’d go.

Redesign

Posted by Whitney Young Sat, 09 Apr 2005 16:25:00 GMT

With the one year anniversary of my software being hosted at AmbitiousLemon (and being distributed in general) rapidly approaching, I decided that I might as well showcase everything in a little more of a professional way. Yes, the old site served its purpose, but no, it wasn’t all that visually appealing. I figured it’s about time this site started to look half decent, so I redesigned the entire website and a lot of the back-end code as well. This time I designed with the intent of making a nice looking site and not with complete compatibility in mind, though, so this site will not display properly on Internet Explorer for Windows. That’s alright though, because those people should be using Firefox anyway. Please feel free to e-mail me comments/concerns about the new design. Oh, and I’m not a huge fan of the main icon on this page, so if you want to create something new for me, feel free! I’ll use it if I like it.
