I guess the problem isn't as reproducable as I thought it was. Perhaps F16 responds as a different key because of its functionality on your computer, since on mine it doesn't do anything on its own. In the plist file the offending hotkey is using keycode 106 and modifier 8388864. Maybe manually editting that in will cause the problem to surface. If not, I'll try to see what else I can find out.

B Kendall, I do have a 109 key keyboard. It's a wireless one, though.
F14 and F15 are reserved, which I forgot to mention before. They handle the contrast control on my monitor. They're pretty much like the volume up, volume down, mute, and eject keys. You just can't get to them. I think they're labeled in case you want to use the keyboard for a non-apple computer.
F16 is the same, but it doesn't crash for me.

The System Preferences never actually crashes, so there is no crash report. If you like, I can send you my preference file to recreate the occurence. Also, if you have an 109 key Apple keyboard, I suspect the same problem will come up on your end if you try to assign a hotkey of F16 to something.

Just discovered some bugs in the current version of TuneKeys:
- The program doesn't respond to the F14 or F15 keys on the 109 key apple keyboard. I think those keys are handled differently by the window server then other keys, but it would be cool to support them.
- Much more importantly: The F16 key crashes the pref pane. It will let me set F16 (with or without modifier keys) as a hot key for something, however a symbol for the key is not displayed, and the rest of the UI for the pref pane becomes messed up. Essentially, I can't click anything and have to quit System Preferences.

Will, I've heard reports of that interfering in the past. I don't know how their application works, though.

I have tried SizzlingKeys in the past, but I am sure that it has been disabled. Are there any configuration bits that could be causing a conflict?

I set up various key combos and double checked that the helper app is running. I even set up a hot key for "sleep computer," and that didn't work either. I am running on a Dual 2 GHz G5 with an Apple Pro Keyboard...
